“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.

So glorify God in your body.”
— 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Do You Know Your Food?

The year is 2014. And within an hour after you have read this line, 10 Filipinos who are alive will be dead from the food they eat.

Out of the top 50 causes of death in this country, 40 are diet-related.

We spend time worrying about what we watch on the news or read about in our Twitter feed or news feed — about dying from murder, homicide, accidents. But in reality, what are we dying from?

Eighty percent of the top causes of death in the Philippines are food-related, diet-induced diseases.

Coronary heart disease.

Stroke.

Hypertension.

Diabetes.

So let me ask you right now: What do you love to eat?

If you are one of those people who love to eat vegetables and enjoy eating fruits every single day, then I’d like to congratulate you. It’s going to be easy for you to find and stay on the path to good health.

What this book will make you do is sit down and think about the food you eat. It will make you ask yourself relevant questions about your diet.

Before you put anything in your mouth, think first: Will this give me life? Or will this give me death? Will this give me health? Or will this lead me to sickness?

Each meal has the potential to repair and strengthen every cell in our body so that we can function and be the best we can be. That’s how important the food we put into our mouth is!

Remember, a big factor in having good health and being healed is in the mind. By eating healthy every day, you are declaring: I am eating food good for my body because I love myself. I am taking care of my health because I am reaching for my dreams and goals. — By Chichi Barba
