Generation Tiktok By Shellie Anne Javier-Follero

When the enhanced community quarantine was announced in March 2020, some of us thought of ways to fight boredom and to keep sane. Some were busy with cooking, watching movies or drama series, and gardening. And others decided to create TikTok videos.

TikTok is a video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based Internet technology company founded by Zhang Yiming in 2012. It is used to create short dance, lip-synch, comedy, and talent videos.

There are different kinds of TikTok entries on Instagram and Facebook that entertained and made us laugh. TikTokers or people who use the app said this showcases their skills and fills their minds with positivity instead of worry.

Advantages of TikTok

Platform for Sharing

TikTok is a platform for those who wish to share their skills or talents. You can create music videos that can capture social media attention.

Good Entertainment

Through TikTok, you can dance while expanding your network. It hones your creativity, too. The app assures you of a video-sharing community that is real, raw, and without boundaries.

Easy to Use

This app does everything for you. The superb videos you create has the potential to engage users and to become viral.

Stress Reliever

TikTokers say the app is a stress reliever and helps keep them sane during the pandemic.

Disadvantages of TikTok

Distract Your Focus

Some teens unnecessarily spend a lot of time in creating music videos instead of studying or helping in house chores. Some people became addicted to it that they neglect their duties and responsibilities as students.

Used as a Harassment Tool

Unfortunately, TikTok is also used by bad guys to shame, harass, or make fun of other people.

Inadequate Content

Some parents are worried about TikTok’s inappropriate content because of the lower age limit to access this app. Some were shocked to see their kids in inappropiate and indecent sexual poses. Parents suggested that to access this app, the age should be at least sixteen years old.

We need to balance the use of our time and revisit our purpose. Does TikTok help you fulfill your purpose? But if if takes up your precious time away from your family and what really matters, then maybe, it is time to stop.
