Blessed Among Women

“Blessed is the womb that carried you and
the breasts at which you nursed.”
– Luke 11:27

Many of us probably know that October is the month of the Holy Rosary. We honor Mama Mary as the mother of Jesus, and our mother as well, by praying the Rosary regularly. We ask for her intercession and pray to be more like her — obedient to God’s will and ever close to her beloved Son. As the mother of the Savior, Mary was truly “blessed among women.”

As a mother of two, I can testify to how carrying life in my womb and nursing both children beyond two years have blessed me in so many ways. Both my children were born while my husband and I were on mission in Timor Leste. They are God’s gifts to us and have taught us that life is indeed precious.

I only hope and pray that other women who are pregnant or are mothers will see their children in the same way — as blessings, and not burdens; as sources of joy, and not sources of stress. Indeed, to be bearers and nurturers of life is truly a gift, no matter what our circumstances may be. Tina Santiago-Rodriguez (tina@trulyrichmom.com)

Reflection: Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did. (Saint Maximilian Kolbe)

Lord, please help me to love and honor Your mother the way You did.
